Trail riders to start: Rosalia ramps up for Battle Days

Rosalia

Rosalia volunteer firemen Saturday plan to power wash the streets for Battle Days June 6. In order to help make this wash effective, Mayor Nanette Konishi asks business owners, chamber and council members and employees to join in to sweep up the sand and grit from the sidewalks to the curbs, and from there shovel as much as possible into containers to be dumped.

This will help insure that the grit doesn’t get washed back onto the sidewalks and help minimize what goes into storm drains, the mayor commented.

The John Wayne Wagon Drivers & Trail Riders have scheduled a May 22 start for their cross-state ride which will again include participation in the Battle Days Parade. Approximately 80 people are expected to participate in the ride this year.

The group plans to arrive at Malden June 3 for a two-day stop. Two breakfasts at the Malden Community Church and a dinner at the Masonic Hall are key ingredients of the Malden stop. They will arrive at the Rosalia rodeo grounds Friday, June 5 before the Saturday parade. The wagon drivers and riders continue to Tekoa to conclude the ride.

They will start at Easton next Friday. They also plan a two-day stop at Revere so they can do recreational rides on the Escure Ranch, according to Tom Short of Woodinville. He serves as coordinator for trail development projects.

Rosalia's April 26 community dinner and conversation brought 85 people for a delicious chicken dinner catered by C&D's from Tekoa. They shared ideas, suggestions and hopes for Rosalia's future.

Younger generation participants suggested an activities bus for students to relieve the burden of working parents trying to get to games, practices and other commitments.

A future farmer's market and safe activity places for youths were two of the other suggestions considered high priority.

The consensus was to do this type of function quarterly. The next dinner and conversation has been scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 9, at the same time and place, Rosalia Community Center, from 2 to 4 p.m.

In addition the town has committed volunteer time to get the park and pool cleaned up and running in time for Rosalia Battle Days.

Ken and Kathy Wilkes have had the initial meeting for the community garden, and volunteers are always welcome, according to Mayor Konishi.
