No-hitters launch Bulldogs baseball

Patrick Jacobs and Garret Burke each served up no-hitters Saturday to launch the Colfax baseball season in the Asotin jamboree.

Jacobs opened the season with a 13-0 shutout over Colton in five innings. The Colfax senior struck out 11 Wildcats and walked just two.

Jacobs helped his own cause at the plate when he hit 4-4 to lead the 12 Bulldogs offense. He tagged three doubles and a single.

Colton pitchers were Brian Chadwick Jordan Druffel.

Other multi-hitters for Colfax were Dylan Heiser and Danny Robinson, each two singles; Burke, two doubles and Keith Gfeller two singles.

Burke, a junior, also booked 10 strikeouts on the way to an 11-0 win over the Potlatch Loggers in the second five inning game at Asotin. Burke allowed zero walks to the Loggers.

Robinson hit two singles, and Jacobs rapped a double and single against the Loggers to cap six hit day. Gfeller hit another pair of singles in the second game, and Brody Yarnell, a freshman from Steptoe, tagged a double.

Potlatch starter was Casey Grady with Cole Walton taking the mound in the third inning for the Loggers.

Colfax had one error in the second game. The Bulldogs next action is set for Friday when they travel to Davenport for their first NE league double bill of the season.
