LaCrosse parade honors Tigercats sports winners

Grand marshals for this year’s LaCrosse Farmers’ Festival parade included the LaCrosse High School basketball team who placed third in the state. They are Alex Fleming, Austin Summers, Brandon Bennett, Bo Rice, Chance Rice, Darcy Stamper, Graham BeDell, Jared Stark, Jed Zimmer, Joey Guske, Julio Dominquez, Justin Wargo, Matt Stubbs, Sam Harder and Riley Roberts. Coaches are Mike Jones and Tim Stamper.

Darcy Stamper also was honored for being the state champion in the high jump in Cheney. He cleared the bar at six feet, six inches and set a school record.

Mike Stine and Norma Gibson rode in a golf cart and were honored for participating in the Special Olympics bowling and track events. Both of them received gold medals in bowling. Mike received a first place gold medal in the shot put and third in the 100-meter dash. Norma received fourth place in the 100-meter dash and fifth in shot put.

Mary Chastain was honored for her 25 years of teaching at LaCrosse. She teaches music, Spanish and art.

Twenty-two entrants were in the festival’s Main Parade.

LaCrosse Cub Scouts Alex Brinks, Tanner Fleming and Dustin Broeckel carried the United States and Washington state flags to start the parade.

Linda Henninger sang the National Anthem.

Whitman County Sheriff’s Posse members Art Sager riding “Sport” and Barbara Kinzer on “Skittles” rode in the parade.

Steve Camp and his granddaughter, Jordan, drove in a ranger.

Cooper Schwartz followed his father, Mike, in his new, red Farmall M tractor that he got for his fifth birthday. Mike drove a red 1951 Farmall M tractor.

The class of 1963 had a reunion and was represented by Gary Dark, Dick Ryan, Rod Bryan, Morrie Camp, Janice Copp Nealy, Russell Bartlett and Patty Broeckel Wieber. They were riding in a pickup driven by Katherine Camp.

Miss Colfax, Katie Largent and her princesses Nicole Sheer and Jacee Thompson, rode in the parade in Jacee’s restored 1985 Ford pickup driven by her father, Keith. Jacee will be running for Miss Palouse Empire Fair this September.

The 2013-2014 ASB officers, Lindsey Miller, president; Graham BeDell, vice president; Cole Evans, secretary, and Jason Wigen, treasurer, rode in the parade.

Larry Brink drove a 1956 Chevrolet 6400 truck. The original owner was Ed Moore and it was converted to a trap wagon by Stubbs Farms. Granddaughters Ashley and Chloe, daughters of Kevin and Amber Brink, rode in the cab with him.

The class of 1993 held its 20th reunion. Members riding in the parade were Michele Joost, Heather Morris Kelton, Tandi Doge Taylor, Danyle Thomas, Melinda Camp Wolf, Todd Nealy and Terra Byrd. Their driver was Luke Morris.

Riding four-wheelers were Grandpa Dennis Mackleit, James, Hallie and Tera pulling Hayden.

Ted Torgeson rode a 1975 360 Honda, John Nelson rode a 1967 Harley Spirit 250, Bonnie Bigsby was on a 1975 orange Honda 360, Blake Torgeson rode a 2006 black Harley Heritage and Milton Aldrich rode a 2008 black Harley Ultra Glide in the parade.

Kayla, Sarah and Amanda Emerson rode in the back of their father’s 1995 Ford pickup. Bill Emerson drove.

Dean Wigen drove the LaCrosse ambulance and Brian Broeckel drove the fire truck.

The Aune children were the first of 14 entrants in LaCrosse Farmer’s Festival Kiddie Parade Saturday morning. They were Gunnar, Abree and Gage, the children of Leonard and Stacy Aune and grandchildren of Gene and Lola Aune.

Matthew and Emily Thompson followed. They are the grandchildren of Katherine Cook.

Harley Jo and Riley Layne Henninger, the children of Andy and Wes Henninger were the third entrants.

Grace Morris, daughter of Ryan and Dawn Morris and granddaughter of Howard and Pat Morris and Pat and Vickie Schweiger, was number four.

As the fifth entrant, Chloe Waddell is the daughter of Edward.

Zachary Cooper rode on his bike while his mother, April Mackleit, pulled his sister, Abigail Mackleit, in a wagon. Grandparents are Greg and Sharon Schlomer and Randy Camp.

Wyatt and Gracie Schwart, children of Mike and Tami Schwartz, were in the parade.

Future Duckmen in the parade were Johnny and Jake Hone, sons of John and Shawna Hone.

Brianna Camp, the daughter of Randy and Brenda Camp, wore a “Cumbia” dress in the parade.

Ellie and Ty Pierson, children of Chad and Karie Pierson, were the tenth entrants.

Representing Wild Oats Relay for Life Kiddos were JP Wigen, Karly Wigen, Olivia Olsen, John Lustig, Seth Lustig, Caleb Lustig, Derek Repp, Darin Repp sold refreshments at the park after the parade to raise money for Whitman County Relay for Life.

Avery and Brody Fleming, children of Loren and Melissa Fleming, were in the parade.

Trey and Tanner Fleming, sons of Chad and Wendy Fleming, rode pint-sized motorcycles in the parade.

Dustin Broeckel, son of JB and Jen Broeckel, was the last entrant in the parade.
