Women & Heart Disease

Did you know that the number one killer for women is not breast cancer – it is heart disease! Heart disease is the number one killer of women, and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. Since 1984, more women than men have died each year from heart disease.

Many women are either unaware of the symptoms to pay attention to or may attribute their symptoms to other causes. Symtoms can include sweating, pressure, nausea, and jaw pain.

Believe it or not, these are all symptoms of a heart attack in women. They are also symptoms that women often brush off as the flu, stress or simply feeling under the weather – which could put their lives in jeopardy.

Whether it is disbelief, lack of awareness or misdiagnosis, dismissing the symptoms of a heart attack can delay critical, life-saving actions. Being able to recognize the warning signs and act quickly, however, can save a life. If you experience any of these symptoms, call 9-1-1 to get immediate help. Do not drive to the emergency department unless you have no other choice.
