Frances A. LisherA graveside service for Frances A. Lisher, 91, was Saturday, June 18, at the Rock Creek Cemetery at Potlatch with the Rev. Bob Lambert of the Princeton Church of the Nazarene officiating.

A potluck dinner served at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene followed.

Mrs. Lisher died early Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Village in Moscow where she had resided since May. Born Nov. 14, 1919, at Latah, to Fredrick and Marie Hirschel Janson, she attended school at Tekoa and married ClarenceLisher Oct. 9, 1937, Coeur d’Alene.

They made their home at Lawrence, Kansas, for a year and then returned to Latah.

They moved to Tensed and then in 1942 to a farm in the Rock Creek area near Potlatch.

They retired in 1974 and moved to Plummer in 1985.

Mr. Lisher died in 2003.

Mrs. Lisher moved to Kendrick, Idaho, to live with her son in July of 2006. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking pies, making lawn ornaments, picking huckleberries, gardening and hosting birthday parties for her grandchildren. Survivors include one son Dale (Fran) Lisher, Kendrick; one daughter, Beverly Jones, Deary, Idaho; one brother, Kenneth Janson, Spokane Valley, 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to the Gritman Adult Care Center, 225 E. Palouse River Drive, Moscow, 83843.

Marjorie G.Smith

A public celebration of the life of Marjorie G. Smith, 88, former resident of Tekoa and Rosalia who recently made her home at Hayden, Idaho, was June 9 at the Tekoa Community Church.

Family interment was at the IOOF Evergreen Cemetery in Rosalia.

Mrs. Smith died June 2, 2011, at Kootenai Hospital in Coeur d’Alene.

Born June 19, 1922, to Claude and Bena McCoy and raised on the pioneer family’s farm in Rosalia, she graduated from Rosalia High School and attended Cheney Normal College.

In 1947 she married Harry Smith and in 1955 they settled in Tekoa and began farming.

Mrs. Smith was a 50- year member of the Tekoa Grange and a member of the Tekoa Community Church where she enjoyed teaching, being a Sunday School teacher and enrolling children in the church’s cradle roll program.

To the kids she enrolled she was "Grandma." Mrs. Smith served on the board of the Palouse Empire Fair and served for many years as superintendent of the vegetable display barn.

Recently, she served as an advocate for new residents at the Sylvan House where she resided and was always upbeat and positive.

She also spent her time stories of her life and family history.

Mr. Smith died in 2005.

Surviving are her daughter, Juanita Morgan and husband Bob of Hayden and son Cliffton and wife Nancy of Tekoa, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial donations go to Hospice of North Idaho or to Tekoa Community Church.

Ethelda Shawgo Todd

Ethelda Geneth Shawgo Todd, 83, native of the Ewan-Rock Lake area, died last Friday, June 17, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Salt Lake City.

She has been cremated and a service will be conducted at a later date in Spirit Lake, Idaho, where she and her late husband resided during their retirement years.

Born to Thomas Elmer and Ida May Evans Shawgo, on the farm in the Ewan-Rock Lake area Feb. 28, 1928, she attended school at Ewan and then at North Central in Spokane where her parents moved in 1942.

After high school she attended Kinman Business College and then worked as a secretary with Spokane County Planning Commission for 13 years.

She and Robert Todd were married July 28, 1958.

They moved to Salt Lake City where he was employed with the National Weather Bureau.

After they retired they moved to Spirit Lake where both were members of the Lions Club and she served as the first woman president.

She was active in her church and enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, crocheting and needlepoint.

Surviving are a son, Robert (Susan) Todd and a daughter, Patricia Todd (Michael) Shedden; a brother, Hugh Shawgo; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Shawgo; one grandaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
