EWU commencement program lists Swannack service award

Lamont

Leslie Swannack of Lamont was awarded a Distinguished Service Award for classified staff at the Eastern Washington University.

The award honor was included in the Eastern Washington University commencement program.

Leslie, who has a degree in business administration from Washington State University, has been working as an administrative assistant at Eastern since March of 2006.

Prior to that she worked as an instructional aide at the St John school.

She provides administrative support for the graduate studies program, vice provost for graduate education, research, academic planning and evaluation and to the vice provost for academic administration.

The EWU award includes a medallion and $1,000.

It and a similar award which goes to an administrative staffer were presented at the EWU family Thanksgiving dinner.

About 25 people attended a bridal shower for Reyna Swift at the Lamont Community Center Saturday.

She and Jared Myers will be married Saturday, July 30, at the home of her parents, Chet and Artis Swift. Hostesses were Diane Cook, Linda OÕKeefe, Bonnie Swannack, Susan Swift, Ginny Rajala and Jean Stromberger.

After the 10 a.m.

shower, a Swift family reunion at the Community Center at noon drew about about 50 relatives.

Thomas Wu from China and Maguel Pinata of Spain returned to their homes last week.

Lea, Owen and Stacy were asked by the Foreign Exchange Student Group to take the two boys shortly before school started.

Thomas was a senior and Miguel, a sophomore, at the St. John High School.

Although Thomas had graduated from high school in China, he went through the studies and ceremony at St. John and on Sunday.

After graduation, there was a party for him at the Swannack farm.

Dishes of Chinese food were served and a few ate with chop sticks.

Thomas is considering coming back for college in the United States.

Since the Swannack Farm in a busy place raising sheep, hay and wheat, the boys were quickly incorporated into the farm and all chores that go with it.

The Swannacks took them to Seattle to see many of the sights including the Space Needle, Pikes Market, and a Mariners baseball game.

When Art had a business trip in Los Vegas, the entire family went there.

They went fishing, rode horses, and camped.

Thomas is an accomplished pianist andwas always ready to play when asked.

They attended the Lamont church every Sunday with Swannacks.

Friday, Diane Cook took Thomas Wu, Maguel Pinata, Carmen, Lea and Owen Swannack to tour the Krem news studios.

They were guests of Randy Shaw, co-anchor of the evening news.

They met Randy andtook pictures with him and his co-anchor, Jane Mc Carthy, and Weatherman, Tom Sherry.

On the way back to Lamont, they stopped in Cheney at the Chinese Buffet.

Dan and Jean Stromberger were guests at the Tim and Arlene Stromberger home in Davenport on FatherÕs Day.

Also there, were sons, Dave Stromberger, Davenport and Marty Stromberger and his son.

On Monday, June 13, Bonnie Swannack and Judy Pagnotta from Mount Lake Terrace left on a trip they have been taking for seven years to Seeley Lake, Mont., to the home of Ann Kimble.

They went though college and nurses training at Deaconess Hospital together.

All enjoy the art of Quilting.

They calculated they quilted eight to ten hours every day and got a lot accomplished in approximately four days.

They returned to their respective home on Friday.

Marvin Blundell and his wife, Jean visited at morning services at the Lamont Church where he was pastor in 1973-1974.

They now live in Nebraska and he pastors there occasionally.
