Perkins House will again be scene for ice cream social

The Whitman County Historical Society will host its 38th annual Ice Cream Social at the Perkins House in Colfax Sunday, June 27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Perkins House is a Victorian home operated as a living museum in Colfax. Characterized by both Italianate and East Lake architectural influences, the house is the crowning glory of historic residential Colfax.

All proceeds from the event go to the Whitman County Historical Society to be used for the preservation of the Perkins House.

Slated to debut at this year’s social will be two new signs which provide information on the Perkins House and cabin.

The Perkins cabin dates back to 1870, and construction on the Perkins House began in 1886.

Almota Inn hamburgers and hot dogs will be served off the grill. Homemade pies, cakes, lemonade, and ice cream from WSU’s Ferdinand’s will be on sale.

The Snake River Six, playing the longest-ever band gig in Whitman County, will again entertain.

The Perkins House and cabin will be open for tours with docents available to share information and history with the guests. A fashion show will feature vintage clothing from the Perkins House collection modeled by local talent.
