Spring Festival today at First Baptist center

Whitman Hospital Auxiliary will host their annual Spring Festival today, Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Recreation Center on Mill Street. The festival will again offer hanging baskets, plants, new and nearly new books, and many more items.

Cinnamon rolls will be served for breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. and lunch service will begin at 11 a.m. Ham and turkey sandwiches, cream of broccoli and tomato soups, and pies will be among items on the luncheon menu.

Raffle tickets are on sale this week at Rosauers for drawing prizes which will include $250 in cash, hanging plants, and a gift certificate at the auxiliary’s Bluebird Shop at the hospital.

Proceeds from the annual festival benefit Whitman Hospital and Medical Center. Proceeds this year will go for the purchase of vital sign monitors.

IW Chorale to perform at LCSC, St. Boniface

The Idaho-Washington Concert Chorale will perform American choral music Friday, April 30, at the Silverthorne Theatre on the campus of Lewis-Clark State College, at 7:30 p.m .; and on Sunday, May 2, at the historic St. Boniface Catholic Church in Uniontown at 6 p.m.

Director Michael Murphy will conduct the 80-voice chorale and 24-voice Chamber Choir As they perform music by American composers with distinctly American themes. The concert will feature Randall Thompson’s “Testament of Freedom” and Norman Dello Joio’s “A Jubilant Song” as well as selections by Aaron Copland, Andre Thomas, and Morten Lauridsen, a composer with roots in Colfax.

This concert is sponsored by Edmund and Beatriz Schweitzer. The Friday concert in Lewiston is also dedicated to long-time Chorale supporters Dene and Gordan Thomas.

Tickets for the performance are $12 in advance, $15 at the door, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students with ID. Children 12 and under are admitted free. ROTP auditions set for musical Gypsy

Regional Theatre of the Palouse will conduct auditions for the Broadway musical “Gypsy,” April 27-29. Roles are available for children, teens and adults in the musical featuring songs such as “Everything’s Coming up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,” and “Together Wherever We Go.”

Auditions April 27 will be at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moscow and April 28 and 29 auditions will be at the RTOP Theater on Grand in Pullman. All auditions run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Actors may be asked to attend callbacks on May 4 and 5 at the theater.

Singers should prepare a short song in the style of the show and bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided or people may bring their own. Acting roles will be given a short monologue or scene from the musical to read. There are several non-singing and non-dancing roles available.

Rehearsals for “Gypsy” begin July 26 and performance dates are Sept. 9-11 and 16-18.

RTOP will also have simultaneous auditions for its November production of “White Christmas.”

Bank Left to display Pauline Lilje beadwork

The works of the late Pauline Lilje, retired WSU library employee who died Dec. 23, 2009, will be featured during May at The Bank Left gallery in Palouse. The exhibit will be a retrospective of her beadwork art which draws inspiration from Native American culture and the life around us. It will be on display from May 1 until May 29.

Born July 4, 1929, in Detroit, Pauline earned her masters in fine arts at the University of Oregon in Eugene. In 1967 the Lilje family moved to Pullman where Pauline worked at the WSU library, and her husband, Gerry, at WSU philosophy department. They eventually bought and lived on a farm outside of Palouse for many years.

In 1996, they retired to Portland, Ore.

St. Maries C of C honors Dan Felton

Dan Felton, who was raised in Malden, has been named for the Citizen of the Year honor by the Chamber of Commerce at St. Maries where he has resided since 1977. Felton moved to St. Maries when we was employed with the Milwaukee Railroad. He started work with the company in 1969 and worked as a conductor. Accord to a report last week by Mary Truman in the St. Maries Gazette Record, Felton opted to stay in St. Maries when the Milwaukee closed down 30 years ago.

Felton has operated Felton’s Auto Sales in St. Maries for 10 years. He served on the St. Maries City Council for six years and had been a high school sports announcer for 25 years.

Felton and his wife, Barbara, have four children and 11 grandchildren.

Relay for Life

Whitman Relay for Life will meet next Tuesday, May 4, at 6 p.m. in the Public Service Building at Colfax. Team captain will meet at 7 p.m.

Plans are underway for night entertainment for the relay which will be at the Colfax High School track July 9-10. Teams are collecting items for the silent auction and plans are underway for renewal of the “Mr. Relay” competition.

There is still time for teams to enter.

Last date to register to receive a T shirt is May 17. Cost of registration is $10. Teams can register after that date but they will not be able to receive a shirt.

Theme for this year is “Imagine A World with more Birthdays. We’re Making It Happen.

Births

Wilkinson son born

A boy Bryson Amos, was born April 24, 2010, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Kathryn Rohrich and Jesse Wilkinson. Grandparents are Saundra and Dean Burlingame, Colfax, and Debbie Spray, St. Maries. The baby weighed seven pounds, 10 ounces at birth.
