Council member resigns

February 25, 2010

Katherine Wride, who was elected Colfax mayor pro-tem last month, submitted her resignation at the Colfax city council meeting Feb. 16. Wride noted it was “an honor and privilege” to serve the Colfax community for the past one and a half years.

Mayor Norma Becker said Wride had to resign her seat because of the potential for a conflict of interest. Wride, who was single at the time she was initially appointed to the council, has since married Colfax police officer Robert Wride.

Mayor Becker said formation of a bargaining unit this year by city police could have led to a situation in which the council will have to vote on a labor agreement. The city was advised by the Municipal Research Center that even if Wride did not vote on any bargaining package a potential conflict was present.

Councilman Don Henderson was elected to fill the pro-tem position.

Residents who are interested in applying for the city council seat are asked to submit an application by March 1, date of the next city council session.
