Swannack family attends convention

Art and Jill Swannack, Owen, Lea and Carmen left Jan. 15 for Nashville, Tenn., to attend The American Sheep Industry Convention.

While Art attended meetings, Jill was co-chairman of the Youth Committee.

There were 26 children from the ages of eight to sixteen and they were kept busy making rope halters, playing games, learning about parasites that affect sheep, learning how to grade a carcass and cut it up.

Sunday they had a party and later, they had a Pizza Party.

The family attended the First Family Baptist church with an attendance of 1,000.

They heard the Grand Old Opry and visited the Wild Horse Saloon.

They went though The Lost River Caves in Kentucky and visited the Stone River Battlefield at Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Lamont Church Ladies Guild members Bonnie Swannack, Linda O’Keefe, Diane Cook, Ginny Rajala and Jean Stromberger spent last Thursday visiting former residents. They first stopped in Cheney at the Assisted Living center of the Cheney Care Center and visited Evelyn Shields.

They went on to the home of Ann McCoy at Clare House in Spokane and all went to lunch at Applebees Restaurant. They went to the home of Earl and Irma Colyar and daughter, Jean, at the Waterford Retirement Home.

Ardis Swift drove to Lincoln City, Ore., to visit her mother, Barbara Pierce, and bring her to Lamont for a visit.

Allen and Diane Cook traveled to Hermiston, Ore., Sunday, to visit daughter, Donna and family. On the way home, the Cooks stopped in Kennewick, and visited with Jack and Louise Armstrong. The Armstrongs have hunted on the Cook land for quite a few years. The Cooks returned home late Sunday evening.

Sprague-Lamont Little Red Hens red hat ladies club met Jan. 19, for lunch at the Rusty Moose near Airway Heights. They then chose to either see movies or shop. Those attending were Bea Butler, Diane Cook, Jo Lane Danielson, Kay Dirks, Lottie Harding, Marcia Landers, Claudia Lowman, Jean Meyer, Shirley Miller, Mary Ruud, Claudette Sharp, Kathy Shields, Nita Vold and Betty Stone.

Pat Peterson left Jan. 13 for Denver where she attended the wedding of her son, Alan Whipple, at the Brown Palace Hotel. She also was able to spend time with her son, Chuck Whipple, of Parker, Colo., and her daughter, Marla Ferrer from Mililani, Hawaii. Pat’s three sisters and their families also live in the Denver area. She arrived home Jan. 22.

Patty and Sonny Etheredge, Carolyn Behrens, Betty Stone, Carol and Rob Vest and Dean and Mindy Melville helped Bill and Stella Melville celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary Sunday with a cake and flowers at the Melville home.

Betty Stone and her daughter, Debbie Gaffney, had lunch at Klinkerdaggers in Spokane Saturday and attended the Ladies Free Style figure skating competition at the Spokane Veterans Arena.

Saturday, Kathy Shields and Jackie Brown drove to Highway 2 to see the movie, Avatar, in 3D and later dine at Northern Quest Casino. Bill Bowen and his mother, Charlotte Bowen, also saw Avatar in 3D Saturday at the Northtown Mall.

Eight of the Sprague-Lamont red hat ladies were part of the program at the annual Sprague Chamber of Commerce dinner Monday evening. They held the numbers for the “Deal or No Deal” game that was played. Those taking part were Diane Cook, Betty Stone, Pat Peterson, Kathy Shields, Claudia Lowman, Shirley Miller, Mary Kay Ruud and Claudette Sharp.
