Kayla Johnson, Brooke Webber and Megan Pearson stretch to put up a block against Newport in the Saturday match at Colfax.

Colfax netters rolled to Davenport Tuesday night and bagged a solid three-game NE win over the Gorillas. The Bulldog three-gamer contrasted with a five-game battle waged with the Gorillas when they made a non-league stop at Colfax early in the season.

Colfax Coach Sue Doering noted Tuesday’s win at Davenport followed a five-game Colfax home loss Saturday to Newport out of the NE-A league. The Newport battle required the Bulldogs to come up with a sustained game, something they haven’t had to do while wrapping up a string of wins in the NE B loop.

“We played a good match Saturday, but we just didn’t step up above them when we needed to,” she said.

Colfax Saturday had Newport down 2-1, but the Grizzlies came back to tie it at 2-2 and then edged Colfax 15-11 in the fifth game decider.

Match line for the Newport win was 20-25 25-19 22-25 25-21 and 15-11.

Line score for the Colfax league win at Davenport Tuesday was 25-21 25-17 and 25-13.

“We passed a lot better than we did Saturday, and that allowed us to get a few things going,” Doering commented. on the Tuesday win.

Rachel Johnson again posted some long strings off the serve line. She finished 17-19 on serves against the Gorillas with six aces.

Kayla Johnson, who had 42 kills in the long Newport match Saturday, added another 32 kills at Davenport.

“She set some kind of a record Saturday,” Coach Doering said.

They start pool play at Ferris Friday night with a 7:30 match against University.
