Benefit dinner set Tuesday

A benefit spaghetti feed for the family of Andrew Swank, Valley Christian football player from Hauser Lake who died Sept. 27 from injuries sustained in the homecoming game at Washtucna, will be Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Washtucna school cafeteria. Donations will be appreciated.


Benefit events for the family were conducted at several schools and games around the area last weekend.

Friends and family from near and far arrived at the home of Carol Kyllo recently to shower Brenda Camp with baby gifts and happy wishes. Lunch was served to the 30 guests. Co-hostess Paula Laurens invited the guests to play Baby Bingo while Brenda opened her gifts. Dessert was served.


LaCrosse All-Purpose 4H Club will start the new 4H year with a meeting Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the school, beginning with an ice cream social at 6:15 p.m. followed by the meeting at 6:30. All youths interested in joining 4H, current members, outgoing members and parents are invited.

The club is seeking interested volunteers to serve as project leaders. People with an interest in goats, sheep, photography, cooking, shooting sports, etc. are sought.

LaCrosse has a new librarian, Mish Stanley. Library hours have changed to Mondays from 1 to 5 and Thursdays from 10 to 2. Story hour will be Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for children up to age 5.

Second Monday Club will meet the second Monday of each month, 3:15 to 4:15.

LaCrosse Community Club is sponsoring a seafood fund-raiser. Halibut, Shrimp and King Crab are available for order by Nov. 1. Contact Randy Scheideman. Outreach Thrift Store, the perfect one stop shop for all Halloween needs, is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 1 to 4 and every second Saturday from 10 to 1.

Mayor Butch Berquist and the town council would like to remind everyone the yard waste dump is provided for the disposal of tree branches, twigs and weeds, but not construction materials.

The LaCrosse Junior High Girls basketball team played in a mid-season tournament at Palouse Saturday. Saturday morning the junior varsity and varsity teams each played Garfield-Palouse.

Afternoon games were played against Tekoa-Oakesdale. Both teams played hard, gained a lot and were happy to finally have all players eligible to play after the flu affected the official practices of individual players. The teams will play their only game in LaCrosse this season, today at 4:30 with Endicott-St. John as guests.

Youths from LaCrosse have spent the past four Sunday afternoons at the WSU Women’s Basketball Clinics in Pullman. WSU players and coaches assisted in skill, sportsmanship, teamwork and scrimmage lessons. Participants included Jett Nelson, Austin Jones, Blake Jones, Trey Fleming, Gunnar Aune, Ashtyn Aune, Sydney Berquist, Caleb Berquist, Braden Miller, Weston Miller and Lindsey Miller. Attendees were given game tickets, t-shirts and basketballs for attending the free clinic.
