Tekoa High School Principal, Yolanda Bone stated that it was not really a lockdown, “I saw some law enforcement outside, so had the teachers keep the students in the Ag building,” Bone said, noting that once she talked to the law enforcement they said that there was nothing to worry about.     COLFAX — The National Weather service predicts a potentially damaging wind event Fri. Nov. 4 into Saturday. West winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts 55 mph Friday afternoon into Saturday, reports say.     COLFAX – Businesses need to collect the additional one-tenth of one percent (.001) sales tax increase for the Whitman County Emergency Communication system. The new additional tax collection began on April 1. The increase was passed by voters in November 2021 election.     TEKOA – The Tekoa Trestle opened March 31 for use by hikers, cyclists and horse riders. The trestle is part of the John Wayne Trail, now called Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail. The trail uses the former Milwaukee Road Railroad. The 250-mile route meanders through 5,794-acres of scenery from near North Bend through the Cascades to the Idaho border east of Tekoa.     COLFAX – More homes were selling at a higher price in January when compared to 2021. The average price for a home sold in Whitman County in January is higher than a year ago at $259,400. It’s $14,700 higher, according to the Housing Report by the Whitman County Association of REALTORS. More homes were sold in January 2022 than last year.     PALOUSE – Palouse could pay $2,000-$3,000 for a new well chlorine pump. Public works Superintendent Mike Wolf told the city council the chlorine pump for well three broke and need replacing. It adds liquid sodium chlorine to the water to make it safe. Palouse has backups for all of the well pumps, but Wolf said the city should replace the broken one.     ENDICOTT – A Northwest Grain Growers pickup crashed with two people in it, rolling sideways off of Kackman Road near Endicott on Feb. 2.
