    Cynthia Hagan, a member of the 1995 class at Tekoa High School, has been recognized by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards after earning national board certification in the area of English as a new language. Hagan is now on the faculty at Sunset Elementary, one of four elementary schools in the Cheney School District.   • Auxiliary Memorial Tree at Whitman Hospital

    The Hospital Auxiliary Memorial tree has been placed in the waiting area of Whitman Hospital next to the auxiliary’s Blue Bird Gift Shop. Donations to the tree to honor or remember someone special will be accepted at the gift shop. The auxiliary is also raffling off a Christmas wreath made by Cottage Gate. Tickets are $1 each and can be purchased at the front desk of the hospital or at the gift shop....

  • Giving Tree now serves more than 68 area youths

    The number of youngsters listed for clothing needs on the Community Action Center giving tree totaled 68 earlier this week with more added each day, according to Gail Webster at the CAC office. Clothing needs of the youngsters are listed on ornaments which have been placed at Bank of America, US Bank and the Post Office. Residents are urged to remove one of the stocking ornaments, purchase a clothing gift, gift wrap it and return it with the ornament before the Dec. 19 deadline.     Friends of Whitman County Library have reduced the price of their latest cookbook and barn calendars for the Christmas season. The newest cookbook, More Recipes From Our Friends, is now on sale for $5 and the calendar in on sale for $6. Proceeds from all sales benefit library programs and services countywide. The cookbook contains 840 recipes gathered from residents across the Palouse region.
