    President of the classified staff union of the Colfax school district testified in a public hearing Nov. 17 that school district officials intentionally demoted her because of her work as union president. The goal of the hearing was to settle a dispute between Classified Education Support Personnel (CESP) president Barb Strevy and the district.   • Records requests swamp city staffers at Palouse

    City staff in Palouse have been working overtime to fill public records requests submitted in the past two months from Steve McGehee and Jim Farr, both of Palouse. The two have submitted 92 requests for documents to the city of Palouse in the past 10 months.     Whitman County commissioners declared a swine flu state of emergency Monday morning. Fran Martin, county health department director, said the emergency declaration allows people other than doctors and nurse practitioners to administer vaccines for the H1N1 swine flu virus. “We’re finding that we’re working our heads and tails off in trying to administer injections, and we’re losing ground on our regular work,” said Martin.   • Library cancels meeting

    The Board of Trustees of Whitman County Library canceled its regular November meeting, which would have been today, because the topics were covered in the special meeting last week. The next board meeting will be Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. in Colfax. Location for the meeting has yet to be determined and will be announced prior to the meeting.     Whitman County commissioners unanimously codified the new industrial wind power zoning ordinance Monday, without any of the controversy that accompanied the more than two-year process of crafting the ordinance. “I know not everybody’s happy,” said Commissioner Michael Largent. “But this is how the process works.” Commissioners inserted some last minute changes into the ordinance that was passed by the county planning commission.     Coach Megan Doering of the St. John/Endicott Eagles, receives special congratulations from her mom, Coach Sue Doering of the Colfax Bulldogs, in a late celebration Saturday night in Yakima’s SunDome. Sue Doering’s Bulldogs ran a 12-game sweep over four foes to collect their sixth straight trophy, the school’s second in the state 2B division. The trophy was the 10th for the Colfax coach.
