  • Excavation begins Vets' memorial project

    The Community Club's Memorial for Veterans project has started. Chris Nelson, Myrna Morasch and Cinda Tribble were at Multiflora Park to direct an excavator from Spokane with removing stumps from the park to make room for the memorial. There was a total of 18 stumps in that area that were removed. Russell Crosswhite of Clean Slate Spokane did the work. October brings back Endicott's free dinners.     Dr. Eugene Kiver, EWU Professor of Geology Emeritus, will present a program on Washington Rocks Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Colfax Library. Kiver’s book will be available for purchase. Co-authors were EWU professors Chad Pritchard and Richard Orndorff. This presentation is free and open to the public.     Art and Colene Sager spent the weekend attending the Prosser Balloon Festival. Flying Farmer friends from Alberta, Canada, and Oregon joined with their Washington friends.     Sole' Farr of Albion, proprietor of Elegance Painting, started work on painting the wooden sign in northwest corner of Codger Pole Park Monday. The sign was carved by wood sculptor Jonathan LeBenne as a tribute after the 1988 Codger Bowl. Farr noted the sign is made of cedar 4x4s which are encased in a metal frame.   • Koker sentenced to 30 days

    Deeanna M. Koker, 35, Colfax, was sentenced to 30 days in jail Sept. 21 after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of heroin. Koker was arrested Aug. 31 at a residence in the 500 block of N. Mill Street in Colfax. She was arrested on a warrant issued in connection with a Colfax burglary investigation.     Six parcels of land with a total value of $37,014 have been listed for tax foreclosure action this year by the county treasurer's office. The parcels were listed in a civil petition filed Wednesday to maintain foreclosure action on the properties. A court order was issued after the filing.
