    September's wet weather has prompted questions about the fate of this year's garbanzo beans and lentil crops grown mainly on the east side of Whitman County. With an unknown quantity yet to be harvested, if conditions persist, including dew in the mornings, legumes become harder to harvest. "The vines and pods when damp and wet, they don't thrash out.     The annual Fly-In at the Colfax Airport will be Saturday. The event this year was moved to September from late June in order to avoid conflicts with an air show in Lewiston. The Colfax Fly-In will again be sponsored by the Organization of Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 328, based in Lewiston. The six year-old event has attracted 40-50 planes each year.     At their Monday workshop session, county commissioners noted that more action is happening for those on the side of banning marijuana in the county. “There have been some requests from the marijuana ban group about us creating a clean air agency in the county,” Commissioner Art Swannack reported.   • Jury fails to reach verdict in 8-day Hargraves trial

    After a long day of deliberation, the jury in the trial of Daniel Hargraves reported they were unable to agree on a verdict, and Judge Gary Libey subsequently declared a mistrial. The jury issued their report at 6:16 p.m. last Thursday. They resumed deliberation at 9 a.m. Thursday after getting the case at 2:32 p.m. Wednesday following closing arguments from both sides.     Port of Whitman commissioners last Thursday approved two resolutions which will clear the way for sale of 25 acres of port land to Aspen Heights, a Texas-based company which develops student housing units. The resolutions called for change in the port's comprehensive plan to allow sale of the property and declaring the land surplus to clear the way for a sale.     The grocery store in Palouse has a new owner. Taking over from Jeff and Vicki McLeod June 5, Amanda Viebrock divides her time between a store in Waterville and now Palouse. The store's new name is Palouse Family Foods to match Waterville Family Foods.     Port of Whitman commissioners Sept. 19 approved support for the Washington Ag History project. Ag History asked the Port of Whitman County for $1,500 to help develop their curriculum project.     Whitman Hospital District Board at their Wednesday night meeting authorized hospital CEO Hank Hanigan to sign the agreement for the hospital to acquire the assets and liabilities of Whitman Medical Clinic.
