    COLFAX—The Thrifty Grandmothers Club has distributed $13,000 to area groups over the past five months. While the club did not meet April through June, it did administer grants of $1,000 to W.H.E.A.T. for postage, $750 to the City of Albion for a lunch program, $750 to the City of Colfax for the swimming pool and $8,000 in scholarships.     PULLMAN–The Pullman Depot Heritage Center was selected as one of 36 out of 40 applicants to be awarded funds through the Washington State Historical Society’s Heritage Capital Grant program. Non-profits throughout the state can apply for WSHS preservation funds every two years. These 36 projects, totaling nearly $10 million dollars, will be forwarded to the legislature for final approval next January.     COLFAX-The Perkins House will host a drive-by vintage fashion show and fundraiser to showcase a new collection of vintage dresses and vests and collect donations for the Colfax Food Bank.     Larry Vern Wood, a.k.a., "The Woodpecker", took his final checkered flag on Aug. 13, 2020. He was 85. Larry was born on July 11, 1935, to Daryl W. Wood and Veda Eaton Wood in Shelley, Idaho. He would be followed by a brother, William Kenneth, three years later. In the 1940's, the family moved to the Spokane Valley and Colfax, Washington, areas and would move back and forth, following Daryl's work.     Larry Keith Honn, lifelong Benge, Wash., farmer and rancher, passed on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at the age of 81 in Whitman Hospital of Colfax, Wash., after a long battle at home. Larry Honn was born December 20, 1938, in Ritzville, Wash., to Lloyd Keith and Emma Kent Honn. Growing up on the family ranch near Benge, Larry learned the trade early.     OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is seeking comments on proposed alternatives for 2021-23 hunting seasons and has scheduled several meetings in August and September to discuss proposals with the public.
