The Colfax High School Class of 1974 held its 40th reunion on July 11-12. Classmates from other graduating years also joined in the activities. An ice breaker was held at the Hyde Out on July 11. Whitman County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program needs volunteers. There are currently 10 CASA volunteers in the county and the organization needs to add five more, according to Jill Whelchel Wahl, program manager. CASA volunteers are appointed by the court to advocate for a child involved in the foster care system. “No special background is required to become a CASA Volunteer. Duane and Deborah Groom of Tekoa announce the forthcoming wedding of their daughter, Becky, to Max Aquino, son of Victor and Mary Aquino of Maple Valley. Recipients of Whitman County Sheriff's Reserve Association Scholarships this year are Samantha Bailey, St. John/Endicott, $500, and Mattie Jo Johnson, Oakesdale, $250. Each year the association sends out applications for scholarships to schools. Each applicant is asked to present their academic transcript, recommendations by teachers and staff, and their community service projects. Diane Harp of Tekoa attended the summer institute "Weaving Hope and Concern: Establishing a Foundation to Improve Health & Safety" July 8-11 in Big Sky, Mont. She learned about positive community norms. The institute class is expected to help the Healthy Tekoa Coalition express concern about the issues Tekoa faces while maintaining a positive, hope-based frame. Carla Hall doesn’t have just one home town. As a minister’s daughter, she grew up in several towns, including Spokane, Selah, Kellogg and Moses Lake where she graduated from high school. Rosalia A Rosalia Community blood drive has been scheduled next Friday, July 25, at the Rosalia Fire Station with the Inland Northwest Blood Center mobile unit. Hours will be from 1:45 to 4 p.m. People who arrive to donate blood will get a free summer T shirt. They will also receive in entry ticket on a drawing for a one-year lease on a new BMW sedan. Addition of a third partner to increase the value of the McCoy Grain Terminal operation was announced this week by Bill Newbry, chief executive officer for Pacific Northwest Farmers Cooperative. The new partner is Mid Columbia Producers based in Moro, Ore.
