As of this Monday morning, it is estimated that in the United States there is one case of Covid-19 for every 100 Americans. This would seem correct for the location of the "Freedom Rodeo," which was held in the "hottest" (most cases being found right now) location in our state. The news is totally composed primarily of the coronavirus (COVID-19). All sports events, fairs, livestock shows, rodeos, concerts and churches are being canceled for fear of getting this virus which only kills 1/2 of 1% of people infected by it (source: John Hopkins University School of Medicine, AP. ROSALIA – Three people were injured and transported to area hospitals from a collision five miles south of Rosalia July 11. According to a WSP report, a 2000 Chevy Silverado driven by Lawrence Peringer, 19, Oakesdale, at 12:41 a.m. was traveling southbound in Highway 271 near mile post three when Peringer lost control, going into the southbound ditch. COLFAX – Whitman County has reached 53 positive COVID-19 cases. The Emergency Operations Center announced three more positive cases July 9 and one July 14. There have been 14 positive cases announced since the beginning of the month, 10 male, four female. The largest demographic is males in the 20-39 age range. WHITMAN COUNTY – Housing sales in June had an increase of almost 20 from the prior month. According to a report from the Whitman County Association of Realtors, 60 residential listings were sold with 52 pending. June was the month with the most sales last year at 68. While June 2020 has a lower number of sales, sale prices were higher. Average price for last month's sales was $303,200. Median price was $283,300. ST JOHN – Joshua Coniber, 40, St. John, pleaded guilty Friday to assault of a child in the third degree and assault fourth degree. Coniber was booked into jail here April 23, 2019, on probable charges of unlawful imprisonment and rape of a child after being interviewed at the sheriff's office about the allegations. He was charged April 26, 2019, with child rape and five counts of child molestation. Charges against Coniber were filed after investigation of a report relayed to officers from a school counselor. ROSALIA – A Moscow man was booked into the Whitman County Jail after allegedly taking a pickup truck and motorcycle before seeking warmth in the women's restroom at the Horn School Rest Area south of Rosalia.
