    The Viking Crew Golf Scramble was held June 14 in Colfax as a benefit for Garfield-Palouse athletics. A total of 32 players participated in the nine-hole four-man scramble, which raised more than $450. Prizes given out went to Ed Griner for Long Drive, Scott Cocking for Closest to Pin and Long Putt.     The Fourth Annual Palouse River Duathlon was held June 14 with 40 racers in and around Palouse. The 14-mile event featured a two-mile running course at the start and finish, with a 10-mile bike ride in the middle. Top finishers were, for men, Jason Plemons with a time of one hour and 18 minutes, while the top female was Julie Thayer in one hour and 20 minutes.     A new look for the NE 2B league for next year has been ironed out by athletic directors on the league before the start of summer vacation. Sports schedule for next year were charted to accommodate three new members of the league, Tekoa/Rosalia, Kettle Falls and Wilbur Creston. Two of the newcomers landed in the league after the WIAA issued its new breakdown of the state classifications based on enrollment.     The seventh annual Peter Zornes Memorial Golf Tournament will be Saturday, June 28, at the Colfax Golf and Country Club. The tournament is the largest fundraising event for the Peter A. Zornes Memorial Neuroscience Scholarship. All proceeds go directly into the scholarship’s fund housed within WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine.     Webb’s Slough at St. John will launch its eighth season of sprint boat races Saturday with a return of the thunder boats and some new features for the big event.     A question about donations to the Town of Farmington from the 2012 and 2013 Farmington Harvest Festival has led to a problem regarding state and federal taxes.     The Palouse RV Park is seeing increased business in its sixth year of operation. In a two-year period, the park increased its receipts from $1,625 for the first five months of 2012 to $3,995 in the same January - May span this year.     Whitman Hospital & Medical Center in Colfax was recently named one of the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals by the National Rural Health Association.     Edward W. Magerison, 31, Pasco, pleaded guilty in superior court Friday morning to two charges of rape. Under terms of a plea bargain agreement, Margerison, the defendant charged in the “rat” video case, allowed the state to move an Asotin County charge of second degree rape to Whitman County. The Asotin charge was added to a first degree rape charge in a revised complaint which was submitted to the court the morning of June 13.     County Administrative Director Gary Petrovich told county commissioners Monday that the state auditor’s office will assist the county auditor in solving its financial reporting problems.
