    Colfax golfers went 1-2-3 and took the team title in the first round of the District 7 B golf championships Tuesday on the par-72 Meadow Wood golf course at Liberty Lake. Tyler Stevenson’s 79 score was good for the medal, followed by teammates Kyle Johnson at 81 and Kasey Johnson at 84. Hunter Weitze shot an 86 for sixth place as the sub-district tourney advanced 28 boys to next Monday’s finals. The showing gave the Bulldogs a score of 207.5, with placings converted to points.     Reardan, a team which started in the number-six slot for the first round of the District 7 baseball playoffs, came to Colfax Tuesday, turned out two solid wins and left with an entry into the next playoff round. Their second win was a 4-1 verdict over the Colfax Bulldogs.     Asotin’s girls bounced back last Wednesday, May 2, to take the last SE track round before the district qualifier. The Panthers rolled up 158 points at Clarkston High for a big win over SJE-LW, their league foe. On the boys side, Waitsburg/Prescott again demonstrated their track prowess by rolling out 185 points, more than double the tally booked by number-two DeSales.     Michal Schuster of St. John/Endicott takes the top score into next Tuesday’s SE District girls B golf final after carding an 87 on the par-72 Palouse Ridge course at Pullman in Monday’s subdistrict match. Schuster’s score led the field, besting Emily Baumgart of DeSales by three strokes. On the boys side, Dakota White of SJE led the local showing with an 87 for a share of fifth place.     Tekoa’s Susannah Scaroni placed second in the women’s wheelchair division of Bloomsday Sunday at Spokane with a time of 36:06 and collected a $1,000 prize. Amanda McGrory, Scaroni’s teammate at the University of Illinois, won the event for the sixth straight year at 34:15.     Colfax softball players stacked two big wins over Liberty Saturday afternoon at McDonald Park to finish 12-2 in league play.     Changes to affect Pullman residents County commissioners swapped about 4,000 constituents in Pullman under the redistricting plan approved Monday. The county was required to equalize population in each district following the U.S. Census every 10 years.     A giant boiler will be scrapped at Colton High School after 76 years due to an energy efficiency grant received by the district. In April, the state superintendent’s office awarded $326,546 to the district to replace the old boiler with two smaller ones and a computer-control system which allows the heating of only certain rooms at a time.     Whitman County has upped the warning level on a curve on Rock Lake Road in response to multiple motorcycle accidents, two involving fatalities, that occurred at the spot within eight months. County sign crews posted last week a more explicit warning of a curve on the road just south of the Dewey Road intersection weeks after a second fatality motorcycle accident.     Two Yakima residents were injured Sunday morning in a collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a Chevrolet Tahoe at the intersection of Highway 26 and the Colfax airport road across from the Palouse Empire Fairground. Erica Moreno, 20, driver of the Corolla was taken by Medstar helicopter to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where she was reported in critical condition with head and neck injuries Sunday.   • Supt. Morgan to nominate Marsh for Colfax principal

    Buck Marsh, assistant principal and athletic director at Bridgeport, will be recommended as the new principal for Colfax High School at the next board meeting, May 14. Marsh was one of two finalists named at the April 23 board meeting. “After interviews and site visits, we feel Mr. Marsh will be the best fit for our students, parents and staff,” Supt.     A head-on collision on Highway 26 near LaCrosse Friday afternoon took the life of a 93-year-old Bellevue woman and left five other people injured. The fatal accident blocked Highway 26 during high volume traffic when students were departing WSU following the spring semester and families were driving to Pullman for graduation. Susie Koontz, 93, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a passenger in a 2002 Toyota Prius driven by Mary Koontz, 59, Seattle.     Colton girls remained on track Monday with two heavy wins over Garfield/Palouse to wrap up the league campaign. The Wildcats shut down the Vikings 11-1 in the first game and 10-3 in the second game. Taylor Nilson allowed the Vikings six hits in pitching the 11-1 win.   • Tolan back in jail on federal charges

    Anthony Tolan, 34, Colfax resident who was released Friday after six months in jail, was returned to jail Monday after being arrested on a federal warrant. Colfax Chief Bill Hickman said Tolan has been charged in U.S. District Court in Spokane with being a felon in possession of stolen firearms and being in possession of stolen firearms. Charges were filed against him in federal court Feb. 22.     Madison C. Heersink, 20, suspect in a Pullman assault case last December, was sentenced to 30 days in jail Friday after pleading guilty to an amended charge of attempted second degree assault.
