Colfax High School Jazz Band members and director Mike Morgan await the signal from judges before playing their three numbers Saturday for Jazz Unlimited at Columbia Basin College in Pasco. The band placed second in the AA division. This was the fifth year in a row the band has trophied at the festival. The Hanford II band was the division winner. Tekoa Tekoa High School graduates in the class of 1950 plan a 60th class reunion to be held during Slippery Gulch Days Saturday June 19. Organizer Tim Daily of Portland said grads will meet for a dinner and a program at the Airport Ramada Inn at Spokane that Friday night. The next morning they will “hitch up their buggies” and head for Tekoa for breakfast and the annual graduate ride down Crosby Street during the Slippery Gulch parade. Jennings Elementary’s annual Child Find will be next Thursday, April 22, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Jennings Elementary. Granville Beitzel The memorial service for Granville Edward Beitzel, 86, will be at Spangle Community Christian Church, Saturday April 17, at 11 a.m. A potluck reception will follow in the church basement. Mr. Beitzel died April 1, 2010, at home from complications of injuries sustained in an automobile accident at the intersection of Highway 195 and the Cheney-Spangle Road. Washington’s budget quagmire has resulted in an accelerated time frame for Whitman County to finish its Almota Road repaving project. Public Works Director Mark Storey learned last week the county would receive $886,000 from the state County Road Administration Board’s 2009-2010 biennial budget to begin work on phase four of the Almota Road repave. “I really didn’t think we’d get anything this time around,” he said. “This gets us that much closer to finishing the project.” The road is the primary route used to haul grain to the port of Almota...
The St. John gymnasium will be full of the artwork of St. John and Endicott students next Monday as the school hosts its first ever art walk. “It will be just like an art walk in an official gallery,” said Art teacher Mary Bertrand.
