    Colfax golfers scored a team win Monday at Ritzville with a score of 213. Hunter Weitze led the team with a 37, two over par. Sawyer Sparkman of St. George’s won medalist honors by hitting a 34, one under par. Other team scores were Lind/Ritzville/ Sprague 227, Inchelium 247, Cusick 301 and St John/Endicott 302. Kasey Johnson of Colfax and Jimmy Psomas of St. George’s tied for third low in individual scores were 38s.     Colfax girls celebrated a championship season and said good-bye to two seniors at the their basketball banquet Tuesday night in the CHS cafeteria. Before the formal presentation the players, parents and fans watched a video presentation named “Restoring the Glory” in reference to the girls return the final eight show at the Spokane Arena and their championship run which ended with a title win over the undefeated Toutle Lake Fighting Ducks.   • Colfax track gets wins at West Valley meet

    Colfax track team started the season in a big way Saturday with an entry in the West Valley Invitational. The big meet included most of the teams from the Greater Spokane League, and coach Jason Cooper said he was more than happy with how the Bulldogs competed against track talent from the AAAA and AAA division schools. Colfax boys placed 10th overall in the big meet, and the Colfax girls placed 9th. In most of the events, the entry list stretched from 50 to over 70 tracksters.   • Former UMC church building becomes Farmington project

    The Methodist Church building in Farmington may be in use again in the next few years. For the past five years, the white church has stood empty in the heart of town, just up from the community center/town hall/library.     Steve Fulton, president of Unifine Mill, will be at the Palouse Knowledge Corridor session April 3. Unifine’s presentations will be from 2 to 5 p.m. at the BellTower Event Center in Pullman with other businesses highlighted during the event.     Students are helping package soup mix for low income families. Storehouse Executive Director Tom Riedner is watching the organization that is dear to his heart grow even more. Riedner grew up on a farm near Colton and got his first after-college job at Continental Grain and worked in the grain industry for 22 years. After he became unemployed, he was approached about directing the charitable organization and eagerly took the reigns.   • Golf club has grand re-opening

    Colfax Golf Club's grand re-opening was last Friday, March 21, at the newly remodeled club house. More than 100 people showed up for Donna Brost's homemade lasagna and filled both the dining room and bar. After dinner, Trent Goetze, new golf club manager, auctioned off the remaining three pans of lasagna to the highest bidders.     The new committee that encompasses farm groups and the state Department of Ecology, called the Agriculture and Water Quality Advisory Committee met for the first time on March 19 in Lacey. According to the DOE website, a broad array of agricultural interests is participating on the new advisory committee to improve working relationships and ensure both water quality protection and a healthy agricultural industry.   • Garfield’s ‘new’ garbage truck now undergoing retrofitting

    The new Garfield garbage truck remains in Spokane being retrofitted for use in the town’s garbage route. The 2002 Mack truck, which the town bought used from the community of West Valley, Utah, in December, has a mechanical arm that operates a device called a Curotto-Can from the inside. The total cost of the new purchase was $63,500. The truck needed to be retrofitted in order to operate it.     Colfax City Council members were advised March 17 that the Transportation Commission has scheduled its April meeting in Pullman. Date of the meeting is April 16. Mayor Todd Vanek said possible topics for Colfax on the agenda could be the south end Colfax bypass and the status of railroad property in town. Vanek noted the Airport Road cutoff from Highway 26 leads to an added traffic load on Fairview and S.   • Garfield accepts bid for treatment plant repair

    The town of Garfield is in the midst of an emergency repair to its wastewater treatment plant. At issue is a trickling filter with a base of concrete that was cracked and leaking. To fix it, a long-pipe connection is being installed which will be fully enclosed, so no water will touch concrete in that particular part of the plant.     Removal of a few trees in Farmington has led to a broader look at the problem. Because of potentital interference with power lines, Avista has removed five trees off city property since January at the town’s request. Forster, 32, who was charged with attempted murder after his wife reported a year ago he had placed a cardboard box over her head to inject nitrogen through a hose while she was sleeping, was sentenced to more than 69 months in jail Tuesday afternoon in superior court.     A pickup truck driven by a Lewiston resident plowed into a traffic light standard and crashed into Colfax Computer Services at the southeast corner of Main and Wall streets early Saturday morning.
