    Tekoa/Oakesdale/Rosalia senior Riley Schell has signed a letter of intent to play football next year at Carroll College in Helena, Mont. Schell, a 6-5, 305-pound offensive tackle, started for the Nighthawks all four years of his high school career, and was a captain this year. He was also named to the all-state and all-league teams.     Uniontown will once again entertain hundreds of guests Sunday for the annual sausage feed at the Community Building from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Volunteers will dole out their famous home-made sausage along with mashed potatoes, green beans, sauerkraut, applesauce, rolls, pie and beverages. “It’s smoky.     History will come alive for county youth this March 8, 9 and 10 with the arrival of a traveling actress of history. Living Voices, a multi-media education program, will visit nine schools with a 50-minute presentation on several aspects of history. Grades five through eight will see the presentation.     Despite a heavy load of snow on its suspect roof, the Community Education and Training Center is still standing at the corner of Main and Wall streets in Colfax. “I haven’t heard a word about it,” said Bob Reynolds, facilities manager for Whitman County, which owns the building. The CETC roof was damaged by a heavy load of snow and ice after a large storm in January 2009.     After an hour-long hearing, Superior Court Judge David Frazier Tuesday denied a motion to vacate January a ruling which granted Seeds, Inc., of Tekoa $7,448,103 on a motion for a partial summary judgment. Scotts, Inc. has been ordered to pay the sum under terms of standard contracts for 2010 delivery of harvested grass seed by growers.     Whitman County has updated the study of the environmental impacts of First Wind’s proposed wind farm after the firm last week added 10 more turbine sites to its plans. After measuring stations showed enough wind for turbines in the Steam Shovel Hill area south of Naff Ridge, Boston-based First Wind decided to proceed with development plans there.     The Port of Whitman County awarded a $259,979 contract to Genesis Construction of Spokane to build a new hangar at the Colfax airport, officially known as the Port of Whitman Business Air Center. The firm had the lowest bid from among seven submitted by contractors. Debbie Snell, port properties and development manager, said the notice of award of contract was set to go out this week.     Tekoa’s superintendent for the last five years has been hired as superintendent for the Shelton School District north of Olympia. Wayne Massie will be leaving the district of 200 students for a district of 4,000 students. In an interview with the Gazette Monday, Massie said he is looking forward to the responsibilities of a bigger district. His move was announced at a Tekoa school board meeting Feb. 22.     Figures on a possible counter blow to the Colfax deer menace were reported Tuesday. The special hunt last fall claimed 29 does in the area around Colfax. Howard Ferguson, wildlife biologist with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife reported Tuesday the 29 permits were returned from a total of 100 issued for the Colfax doe hunt which was intended to reduce the deer population in Colfax.     Colton school district voters will see a revised bond proposal for the remodeling of their school on the ballot April 26. School district officials have dropped the overall cost of the project approximately a quarter of million. The bond proposal has been reduced by $164,000, from $5,160,000 to $4,996,000.     More snow socked in much of the east side of Whitman County Monday night and Tuesday morning. Power outages were recorded in some parts of Colfax Monday night and schools in Colfax and Steptoe opened two hours late Tuesday. Garfield/Palouse initially slated a two-hour delay for Tuesday but later closed school for the day. Pullman, Potlatch, Colton and Troy schools were also closed for the day.
