    Colfax Fire Engine Three has been sold for $4,800, Fire Capt. Tim Tingley reported today. The 1980 GMC had been offered for sale on a public surplus internet site and had received a high bid of $3,575 as of the last city council session. Tingley said bidding for the truck became lively as the deadline for the auction approached. He reported to the city council Tuesday that the truck had sold for $4,000, but a last round of bidding later bumped the sale to $4,800.     Formal charges of third degree assault and resisting arrest were filed in superior court Friday against Allyson Herkowski, 23, Pullman. According to the arrest report, officer Shane Emerson was called to Etsi Bravo at 10:28 p.m. New Year's Eve by a report that a woman refused to leave when asked to do so.     To cover funding shortfalls in 2018, the library has frozen staff wages, trimmed book and online materials by 20 percent and eliminated costs in every place possible. “This year our goal was to cut the budget areas that least affected our library users. Frankly, there are no good choices if further cuts are required,” Library Director Kristie Kirkpatrick said.     Dustin M. Birch, 42, was sentenced Friday to six days in jail with credit for time served after he pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to register as a sex offender. According to the arrest report, Birch, who was convicted of child rape in Pierce County in 1992, called the sheriff's office last September and advised them he was moving out of his residence in Garfield.
