DAVENPORT—The trial of a Sprague defendant in a criminal sex case has been continued again. This time, the trial of Jonathan Ray Stocker, 42, of Sprague, was continued because he was served with a federal warrant. Stocker is being held in the Lincoln County Jail. • Davenport appeal to WIAA is denied

    Drew Lawson, Record-Times|Feb 1, 2024

DAVENPORT—Despite advocacy from School District administration, Davenport will remain a 2B school for at least the next four years. Davenport’s appeal to move down to 1B was rejected by the WIAA last weekend after the Northeast 1B League voted against accepting Davenport into the league. • The 10 best Christmas songs

    Drew Lawson, Lincoln County Record-Times|Dec 7, 2023

As soon as the turkey, stuffing and sweet potatoes are put away on Thanksgiving, it’s officially time to turn the holiday calendar to Christmas. Notice I didn’t mention mashed potatoes in the list of Thanksgiving foods. That’s because mashed potatoes are the worst dish served in a classic Thanksgiving meal. Think that’s a controversial opinion? Good. That was just a setup for this column that leans into the Christmas spirit by sharing the 10 best and 10 worst Christmas songs. You may think I, a...

  • Bulldogs lose to Screaming Eagles

    Drew Lawson, The Record-Times|Sep 28, 2023

REARDAN-A visit to Joe B. Johnson Field by the Colfax Bulldogs turned into not much of a contest, as the Screaming Eagles dominated their visitors 47-16 for their first league win of the season Friday, Sept. 22. The win improved Reardan's record to 2-2, while Colfax is still searching for the taste of victory at 0-4. Colfax was able to move the ball offensively in the first quarter, but its opening drive met disaster for the visitors and triumph for the hosts as Jakari Singleton snuffed out a...

  • Humanity shines as Gray Fire hit Medical Lake area

    Drew Lawson|Aug 24, 2023

On Friday afternoon, Aug. 18, our spirits were high. I’d just finished work for the day and was planning to grill some brats and cook baked beans for an enjoyable barbecue dinner. Summer weekends were running out, and we wanted to make them count. Little did we know, that naive plan was about to go out the window. After resurfacing from my home office on the north side of Medical Lake, I noticed a massive plume of smoke to the south. I instantly knew it was a wildfire, and my first instinct was...

  • Oakesdale eliminates Odessa

    Drew Lawson, The Record-Times|Mar 2, 2023

SPOKANE—Another big game from the dynamic duo of Jessie Reed and Marilla Hockett was enough for the Oakesdale Nighthawks to keep their season alive while sending the Odessa Tigers home in the process. Oakesdale beat Odessa 56-48 in a loser-out game at the Spokane Arena Friday, March 3. The loss ended the Tigers’ season, one in which Odessa advanced to Arena play for the first time in program history. Both offenses started at breakneck pace. Odessa would sink a shot, and Oakesdale would res...

  • A new postseason wrinkle

    Drew Lawson, The Record-Times|Jan 26, 2023

SPOKANE VALLEY – Historically, postseason basketball at the B level has taken place over four exciting weekends throughout the greater Spokane County area. Four weekends apparently weren't enough for Districts 6 and 7, as the two added a new wrinkle to the postseason picture this year: Crossover games to qualify for the state tournament the weekend of Feb. 17-18. The WIAA has allotted three boys state berths to District 7, three girls state berths to District 7, two boys state berths to D...

  • Colfax girls pull away from Davenport

    Drew Lawson, Record-Times|Jan 19, 2023

DAVENPORT - Despite a strong fourth quarter, last Friday's girls basketball game against top-ranked Colfax showed the Gorillas still have a ways to go to reach the Bulldogs' level. Then again, that much is true of most 2B girls teams, as evidenced in Colfax's 60-45 victory Jan. 13 that kept the Bulldogs perfect at 8-0 in league and 15-0 overall. The Bulldogs took a quick 19-11 lead in the first quarter behind eight points from Brynn McGaughy and six points from Hailey Demler, then extended...

That is, until Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, when Davenport pulled away from its closest league challenger thus far to top Colfax 69-51 and snap an 18-game, nearly 13-year losing streak to the Whitman County foe. Most of Davenport's senior-laden team was in preschool or diapers in Feb. 2010. Now they are entering adulthood while helping their squad to 14...

  • Davenport surges past Colfax in league game

    Drew Lawson, Record-Times|Oct 20, 2022

DAVENPORT - Before this season, now-former head coach Justin Young promised that the Gorillas would be leaning on quarterback Jaeger Jacobsen's passing ability more heavily this season. While the passing game was more prominent in the season's first five games than it had been in years prior, it was the first game under new leadership that Jacobsen's right arm was the biggest key to Davenport's victory. Davenport built a big lead and held on to beat the Colfax Bulldogs 49-24 in the first game...

Senior John Lustig got the ball inside and hit a shot while drawing contact to make it 60-57, but his free throw rimmed off. On the other end, Davenport found an open shot for Cash...

Reardan came out swinging behind seven points from senior Ayden Krupke, taking a 7-5 lead and forcing a Colfax timeout. The Bulldogs took the lead 13-12 despite 10 points from Krup...

The Washington Interscholastic Athletics Association (WIAA) unveiled its state tournament allocations for fall sports. The allocations determine how many teams each district gets to send to the state playoffs in the sports football, soccer, and volleyball. No changes were seen in soccer and volleyball. District 7, which includes Davenport and Reardan, was given one berth in girls soccer and three in volleyball for the 2B state playoffs. A fair allocation, as the number of 2B girls soccer teams...
