Barn calendar

2013 on stands

The new 2013 edition of Barns of Whitman County calendars are now on sale with all proceeds benefiting Friends of Whitman County Library. Photographs by Steve Van Vleet depict 11 of the barns. Also, WSU’s Manuscripts, Archives and Special Collections and the Whitman County Rural Heritage contributed a number of historic images to the calendar. The calendar has been a hit for gift giving and local barn enthusiasts who like to visit the featured barns.

Calendars are available in Colfax at Rosauers, Ace Hardware, Cottage Gate, the Chamber of Commerce office, in Pullman at Dissmore’s and the Chamber office along with any Branch of Whitman County Library.

Auditons

slated for RTOP shows

Regional Theatre of the Palouse has slated auditon dates for two upcoming shows. Auditions for “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” will be Nov. 28 and 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 with call backs Nov. 30.

Auditions for the cast of “Hello Dollly” will be Dec. 4 and 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 with call backs Dec. 6 and 7.

Steelhead author slated at Dahmen

Lewiston fly fisherman and author Will Godfrey will sign copies of “Seasons of the Steelhead” Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. The book will be available for purchase, and everyone that purchases the book at the Barn will receive one of Will’s tied steelhead flies.

Godfrey moved in 1989 to Lewiston where the famous A and B runs of the steelhead happen every July through March. He was able to fish on a daily basis, and his passion for steelhead fishing was rekindled.

Palouse Round Table craft sale set Dec.1

The Palouse Round Table craft sale will be Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in the new Palouse Community Building. Many unique, inexpensive handmade crafts will be on sale.

Pie and coffee will be available all day, and lunch will be served beginning at noon.

The club will raffle off three prizes: a quilt made by Karen Huber, a basket full of goodies and a $100 gift certificate to the Palouse Market.

Proceeds of the sale are used for scholarship awards for Garfield/ Palouse graduates and for other community projects.

Harmony night

slated at Dahmen

A concert of harmony is scheduled at Dahmen Barn on Saturday in Uniontown, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The concert includes familiar pop and love songs sung barbershop style by “4 Names in a Hat” and folk hits from the 50s and 60s with a dash of bluegrass, country and pop done in the tradition of the Kingston Trio by the “Hard Travelin’ Trio.”

ON CAMPUS

MUSIC

Band repertoire standards will be presented in concert by the WSU Symphonic Band and WSU Wind Ensemble at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in Bryan Hall Theatre. The heart of the program will include: “Blessed Are They,” by Johannes Brahms and arranged for band by Barbara Buehlman. It will be performed by the band and conducted by David Turnbull. “Angels in the Architecture,” by Frank Ticheli, performed by the wind ensemble and conducted by Dahn Pham. The program is free and open to the public.

Christmas exhibit opens

at Dahmen

The “Christmas at the Barn” exhibit opens Dec. 1 at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn and continues through December. “Christmas at the Barn” is the annual resident artist exhibit showcasing 23 resident artists. The exhibit will feature a Christmas tree with handcrafted ornaments and miniature paintings.

The opening reception will be Dec. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 6.pm. The weekend will feature seasonal ornament demonstrations to keep children and adults entertained and lots of festive refreshments and music.
