Bulldog boys face Gorillas in NE playoff launch today

Colfax boys, the number-two entry from the south side of the NE league, will play Davenport today in the quarter-final round of the playoffs today at 5 p.m. in the West Valley gym. The Gorillas, number three entry from the north side, will face Colfax after defeating Tekoa/Rosalia 65-40 in the opening round at West Valley Tuesday.
Peyton Buchanan led the Gorillas with 13 points in the play round.
The Colfax-Davenport game today will be opposite the Asotin-St. George’s game. The Dragons are the number-one team from the north side and have the top record for all entries. Asotin faces the Dragons after a 73-39 win over Springdale in Tuesday’s first round.
Colfax boys face the Gorillas after two big wins on their home court to wrap up the league action
The Bulldogs bested Asotin 62-52 on Friday and stopped the LRS Broncs 43-30 with a strong second half Saturday.
Saturday the Bulldogs were unable to shake the Broncos in the first half. Caleb Berquist, who led Colfax with 15 points, hit a three-pointer at the top of the game and the lone score lingered while both teams tried to find the clutch on offense.
Colfax booked a four-point lead after the first quarter, but the Broncos came back and stalked Colfax within two or three points in the last minutes of the half.
The Broncos tied at 16-16 just before the break with Austin Thompson rolling right down the key to hit the bucket just before the buzzer.
Colfax came out after the break and collected four three-pointers to fuel a 17-point charge. The defense held the Broncos to just two points for the frame, and Colfax went onto the last quarter with a 15-point lead.
Part of the loss for the Broncos came at the toss line where they hit just 7-17.
Friday Asotin’s Panthers ripped a quick 20 points in the first quarter and held on for a 32-32 tie at the half. Colfax added another 30 points in the second half for the 62-52 win.
Carson Cloaninger had another big night with 27 points, including 18 in the first half when the Bulldogs were trying to dig out of an early hole. Cloaninger hit four threebies for the night.
Asotin’s Colton Ball hit 15 of his team’s 18 points in the second half. That was 75 percent of the Panthesr points for the last two periods.
Six Colfax seniors honored Saturday in the last home game included Chase Baerlocher, Caleb Berquist, Cal Gregory, Brett Kincaid,
Jaydon Soncarty and Austin Ring. The seniors all collected on the Bulldog bench in the final hoop minute at Colfax.
