‘Food for Fines’ begins 10th year

The 10th annual “Food for Fines” drive will begin Monday, , and continue through February at all 14 Whitman County library branches. Library users can exchange non-perishable food items for up to $10 in outstanding library fines. All food will be distributed to the food bank in the community where it is collected.

Last year, the library collected over $1,030 worth of non-perishable foods. The total was over one third more than was needed to clear fines, said Kristie Kirkpatrick, WCL director.

Non-perishable food may be donated at library branches in Albion, Colfax, Colton, Endicott, Farmington, Garfield, LaCrosse, Malden, Oakesdale, Palouse, Rosalia, St. John, Tekoa and Uniontown.

Librrary patrons whose accounts have been sent to collection can not qualify for this waiver.
