Notice of Appointment. Whitman Conservation District Board Supervisor. The District is announcing an upcoming vacancy for an Appointed Supervisor position for a three-year term. Conservation Districts are governed by a volunteer, five-member Board of Supervisors with six primary functions: work as part of a team with other supervisors, employees and agencies; help develop local district leadership; maintain local control over local issues; obtain technical and financial assistance for the District’s Public, coordinating with other cooperating agencies; assign priorities to resource problems, programs and tasks; and solicit input on resource problems and solutions from all District Stakeholders and keep them informed. The eligibility requirement of those interested in becoming a Supervisor is to be an eligible elector, defined as 1) a registered voter in Whitman County, 2) residing within the District boundary, and is 3) a landowner or an operator of farm or occupies land. The Conservation District Supervisor is a public official who serves without compensation while setting policy and direction for the District. There is one monthly board meeting to attend with the possibilities of additional conservation-related meetings throughout the year. The Board Supervisors provide guidance and oversight on District activities and projects.
